Rachel Logue Cook, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Rachel is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Neuromuscular Physiology of Human Movement Lab. Rachel completed her PhD and Master's degree in Movement Science from the University of Michigan after obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from San Diego State University.

Her research focuses on the aging process and developing ways for older adults to remain active and independent into later life. Rachel's research aims to use a variety of methodologies including big data analysis and lab-based and community-based research. Presently, she has an interest in understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms of physical decline in older adults and how these declines differ between the sexes across the lifespan.

Outside the lab, Rachel enjoys going for walks, boxing, baking sweet treats, and spending time with her husband, newborn daughter, and dog.

Sarah Lessila, MS

Research Specialist

Sarah oversees and coordinates various ongoing studies within Dr. Hunter’s Lab. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and a Master of Science in Exercise & Rehabilitation Science, both from Marquette University.

Beginning her research career as an undergraduate in the Integrative Neural Engineering & Rehabilitation Laboratory (INERL) under the mentorship of Dr. Allison Hyngstrom, Sarah assisted investigations studying gait and balance impairments in individuals with cervical myelopathy. Building on this foundation, she went on to earn her MS in 2023, focusing her research on the intersections of pain, physical activity, and Long COVID-19 under the guidance of Dr. Marie Hoeger Bement.

At the Neuromuscular Physiology of Human Movement Lab, Sarah is interested in studying exercise performance, mechanisms of muscle fatigue and sex differences

Originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin, Sarah enjoys spending her time outside of the lab volunteering at local organic farms, reading, listening to classic rock, and rock climbing.
