Participants will initially be asked to attend up to 4 sessions of testing that may take up to 3 hours per session.
**Before each participant comes in for their first session, they will complete an online health history questionnaire and phone screening to check that they are eligible for the study. Testing sessions will be at least 48 hours, and up to 1 week apart.
If a participant currently participates in regular strength and/or power training exercise or has done so on a regular basis in the last 6 months, they will be able to participate in the initial experimental sessions but will not be eligible for the additional exercise training program.
Testing sessions will include the following:
1. Informed consent.
2. DXA body composition scan at the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology.
3. Blood pressure measurement.
4. Neuropathy screening.
5. Submaximal cycle aerobic fitness test accompanied with a 12 lead ECG.
6. A finger prick and blood draw to measure blood sugar and blood lipids.
7. Ultrasound measurements of blood vessels in the upper thigh.
